Just a few kilometres from Modica lies one of Sicily’s most fascinating natural and archaeological sites. Cava d’Ispica is a canyon stretching approximately 13 kilometres, carved over centuries by the Ispica stream, whose rocky walls hold three thousand years of history.

Prehistoric caves, rock-cut necropolises, early Christian catacombs, Byzantine churches and medieval settlements follow one another along the trail, set in a wild and silent landscape that surprises at every turn.

Not to be missed:

The Catacombs — one of the largest early Christian burial complexes in Sicily, with hundreds of tomb niches carved into the rock.

The Grotta dei Santi — a rock-cut church with Byzantine frescoes still visible on the walls.

The Prehistoric Necropolises — Bronze Age tombs that bear witness to human presence in this territory since prehistoric times.

The Landscape — unspoilt nature, among prickly pear cacti, carob trees and the silence of the Iblean countryside.

Tour available by reservation. Guide available in Italian and English. Duration: approximately 2 hours.
